A wine born in altitude that sets its sights even higher

Sitting at an altitude of 549 metres, Albugnano overlooks the hills of the Monferrato area surrounding Asti and, in the distance, the Basilica of Superga and the western Alpine mountain range.
This is where the Albugnano 549 Association was founded in 2017 (549, after the altitude of the municipality of Albugnano): 13 producers from the DOC’s four communes (Albugnano, Pino d’Asti, Castelnuovo Don Bosco and Passerano Marmorito) who share a commitment to consolidating and promoting the oenological, historical, cultural, environmental and socioeconomic identity of the Albugnano DOC terroir.

The Wine

The Albugnano 549 is a wine obtained from pure Nebbiolo grapes and aged in wood for a minimun of 18 months and in a bottle for at least 6 months.
With a production capacity estimated at 200,000 bottles, this wine strives for the excellence of the great wines of the Piedmont, aiming to open a new promotional and sales window in the Italian and international markets.
The very limited production of Albugnano covers just 22 hectares, and can be defined as Superiore after 12 months in the cellar aged in oak barrels.
The well-known oenologist Dr Gianpiero Gerbi oversees the work of the members of the association and monitors the quality of the end product.

The value of being unique

Albugnano DOC, a fine wine whose future seemed destined to remain local, is set to become an excellent example of protection and promotion of biodiversity and a terroir.
